Eagle
Watching
In and
Around
Grafton
Grafton and the
surrounding area is the winter home of the American Bald Eagle. From late
autumn thru early spring, you can see this majestic creature in its natural
habitat, fishing in the river, roosting in trees on the islands and soaring above the bluffs.
The
Grafton Ferry offers spectacular
eagle-watching opportunities. Our crew will be happy to point out the best
places to catch a glimpse of the birds; just ask the deckhand.
Early morning is the
best time for eagle watching. The birds prefer colder weather, and a
little ice on the river provides good fishing spots.
As spring
approaches, the eagles leave our area and head back north.
You may find a few "stragglers" still here in early March. The
eagles return to Grafton in full force starting in November.
